Some browsers load the entire page before allowing any file to be played. This can greatly slow down the process of playing files.
Omeka uses a Quicktime engine to handle the files. If you use a Quicktime plugin for your browser, the files can start playing before the entire file is loaded. There are other plugins which do the same thing.
